ETNA ROSSO

Pistus, “pounded,” the true symbol of the toil of Etnean Man. The same wine that the Muntagna peasants once produced for their everyday consumption, and it bears the mark of these men: rough, wild, edgy, spontaneous.

Nerello Mascalese (80%), Nerello Cappuccio.

TYPE OF CULTIVATION:

Espalier, 7000 vines per hectare and counter-espalier, currently in conversion to the alberello system.

SOIL TYPE:

Sandy, volcanic, very mineral-rich, subacid-reacting.

VINIFICATION:

The grapes are hand-picked, carefully sorted and placed in low crates to be brought intact to the winery, where they are destemmed and crushed. Maceration lasts about a week in special steel tanks. Aging: about 9 months in steel tanks. Aging: at least 6 months in bottle.

ORGANOLEPTIC CHARACTERISTICS:

Color: red with accessible ruby reflections. Smell: fresh fruit, floral. Aromas: fruity, harmonious, pleasantly tannic, with good acid persistence.
